Xolo Play Review

XOLO is coming out with THE best phones for THE best price period. Recently they launched their new gaming phone the XOLO Play. It is one the best quality smart phones we have seen in a long time for a very affordable price. The XOLO Play comes with a 12 CORE NVIDIA GeForce GPU! Yeah, its massive, powerful and simply wonderful. It is gaming on another level hence the dedicated name. XOLO is somehow with time increasing the gap between them and the other budget smartphone makers in the race with revenue and market share. This marks their spot in the clutter of smart phones yet making it shine.

The gaming smartphone by XOLO looks really fantastic no doubt about it. The built of the phone is incredible with its high quality polymer. It gives you a great hold on the device thanks to the accurately crafted curved on the corners. XOLO Play has a totally flat back which might not be ideal for the greatest of comfort in holding the smartphone. You have both the volume rockers and lock button the right edge of the phone. The speakers are embedded on the corners on both sides to give you real good quality sound and almost feel like good surround sound. The phone has a brilliant matte finish to it, it just feels incredible in your hands. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microUSB slot. The phone is just available in black.

When you are making a gaming phone you HAVE to get the display right and with it the image processing engine and the GPU. XOLO kept this in mind not just a minimum requirement to craft the phone the way they have but they have exceeded the display and gaming GPU engine. Xolo Play comes with a 4.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen display. It is a 720p HD display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a pixel density of 312ppi. Hot right? Oh it very well is. The display looks really beautiful with all the vibrant yet accurate colours. The NVIDIA 12 Core GPU gives you flawless video playback and gaming graphical experience, one of the best that you will ever experience on a smart phone.

Xolo Play comes with a very nice camera on both the primary and secondary front. The primary camera is an 8 MP camera which captures beautiful images. It performs brilliantly under favourable light conditions and the images have good depth of colours and sharpness. The photographs do not look over saturated but the saturation does not seem to be very precise as well. Maximum resolution in which the images can be captured is of 3264×2448 pixels. The primary camera can capture video in full HD 1080p quality. The secondary camera can take video in 720p HD quality. The secondary camera has a moderate angle of capturing, it comes with a 2MP sensor. The primary camera is capable of detecting faces and getting nice pictures for you to upload over the social networking sites to share.

The performance here is the most crucial thing for Xolo’s “PLAY” phone. To back it up Xolo has provided this smart phone with a powerful NVIDIA Tegra 3 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor and 1GB of RAM. Well if you are selling this phone for an exclusive tag of gaming then I would say along a Quad Core processor it is quiet essential for a 2GB RAM to be present to handle the main memory while playback. But yet the phone outperforms even the more expensive Samsung Galaxy SIII in terms of processor speeds and total benchmark score. What this company has accomplished with this phone is no less than incredible. Even the Asphalt 7 and those bulky Commando games work really awesomely on this phone. The response time is almost instant. XOLO Play does stand on its name just in giving you the speed required but also great GPU and display.

This amazing smart phones runs on the Android v4.1.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system. Android Jelly Bean has provided a really interactive and user friendly environment on the phones. Google along with the developers working on the OS provide most of the applications for free that might be paid for over other stores of other mobile operating systems. Android has come a long way since it started first in the mobile OS world, it was all iOS and now no one can deny that atleast they have outperformed Apple in gaining a fair bit of share in the whole world. Jelly Bean offers deep customization and you can change it according to your will. Android is so open that you can put a Windows Phone 8 or an iOS skin and the whole environment will start to look like that.

Memory and Data

When you have games you need memory to store it, XOLO Play comes with 4GB of internal memory and 1GB of RAM or Main Memory. You can expand the memory to up to 32 Giga Bytes. The phone can also turn into a Wi-Fi hotspot, it has a great WLAN and supports wide bandwith. The phone also connects to the data over cellular networks over both 2G and 3G. XOLO Play does not have NFC but does come with Bluetooth v3.0 for you to pair to devices or custom hardware.

Final Thoughts

XOLO Play is a thing of beauty, it is a smart phone gamer’s fantasy on their smartphone. It is beautiful from the built to the way it performs. Thanks to XOLO to incorporate the micro GPU’s with Nano cores, as many as 12 that give your graphical engine amazing fuel and quality to perform in its very best. The camera is not too great though that should be least of your concerns when you get such a powerful smart phone with the best by both XOLO and NVIDIA. This might be one of the most recommended mobile phones of 2013.

XOLO Play is available for Rs. 15555
