Xiaomi RedMi 1S Review

Xiaomi is doing incredible things for exceptional prices. First the Xiaomi Mi 3 boomed in India with high specs and low price and now a budget phone that is sold out within seconds. There are still people out there waiting to get their hands on for like 3 months. We were lucky to get one and here is what we think about the Xiaomi RedMi S1.

This phone is not eye catchy at all. The Mi 3 has a great body but this doesn’t. But Xiaomi RedMi S1 is half the price Mi 3 is anyway. It has a matte built, it is chunky and rubbery and certainly not the best build quality. The phone is like a perfect rectangle in design so nothing too great there as well. The speakers work just phone and are micro grilled.

Software integration by Xiaomi is able to solve a million things. And most important of them all- the display. The display on the Xiaomi RedMi S1 is a 4.7 inch 720p HD display. It does not account for a bad ppi at all but the software enhancement of pixels make it look super sharp and clear. It beats most of the displays out there even compared to the phones double the price, the 4.7 HD display on the Red Mi is absolutely brilliant.

Xiaomi RedMi S1 comes with an 8MP shooter. The camera takes decent photographs. The resolution good enough to post and share on social media but certainly not beautiful enough to get them printed. The colors look washed off and there is a lack of sharpness in the photographs. Xiaomi RedMi S1 does take good video but it is just too shaky for my liking. But the quality of the video is super clean and crisp. The 1.6 MP front camera takes really bad photos, like really bad.

Xiaomi is all about software integration. They have their own unique UI to go on the v4.3 Jelly Bean on the Xiaomi RedMi S1. The 5.0 UI version on the phone keeps on refreshing and keeps giving users new features to play with. There is a user feedback that they send and Xiaomi works on what the users and doing and how they are using the phone and accordingly they make changes.

The battery life on the Xiaomi RedMi S1 is really good. It takes you with about 1.5 days of moderate usage which is pretty good for phone in current market. Xiaomi RedMi S1 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 4 cores and clocked at about 1.6GHz along with 1GB of RAM. It is certainly not the fastest phone but it will fare through. They should have given 2GB of RAM. Apps these days just don’t fare that well with 1GB RAM. There is 8GB internal memory provided with expansion up to 128GB if needed, which is a lot.
