Nexus 5 is the pure Android device Google makes with their pretty vision for Android. That is what Nexus 5 sells not to forget the amazingly lower price compared to every other flagship by the higher end ones. Sony Xperia Z2 is made on what Nexus 5 sells with better hardware, way better hardware. Let us dig and find out which one does better.
Sony Xperia Z2 is a completely flat phone, from the sides to the edges and the corners. It is made out of a full body glass of real top quality. The glass is really glossy and shatter proof. It is also dust proof and dust proof. The phone really feels good in the hand. Nexus 5 is made out of rubber, rather a matte feel than a pure rubber one. The phone just sits comfortably in your hands. Both the phones are pretty large but Nexus 5 is a little thicker for the jeans pockets than the Sony Xperia Z2. They are really pretty close otherwise. Both phones look incredible and feel even better. Design: TIE.
Packing a full HD display is a trend and so is having the display size 5 inches. These phones, both have a 1080p full HD display i.e resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. Sony Xperia Z2 has a 5.2 inches display and the Nexus 5 has a 5 inch display. The displays look really beautiful, both of them. Nexus 5 have less warmer or realistic colours than what Sony represents on the Xperia Z2. The Xperia Z2 is much better at showing you videos and images, but you will only notice the difference when you keep it side by side with the Nexus 5. But if you take them individually I don’t think anyone would have a problem. But, the Sony Xperia Z2 certainly has the better display. Display: Sony Xperia Z2.
Google Nexus 5 has an 8MP primary camera and the Sony Xperia Z2 has a 20.1 MP camera. That number only matters if you want to print your photos or if you want to crop the picture and 8MP is enough to crop it to realistic scales. Both these cameras produce some overly bright colours. A blue sky looks bluer, a nice green garden looks overly lime green color. Nexus 5 have some shutter performance issues. The shutter is just too slow and the sensor takes forever to focus. Nexus 5 has performance issues with low light as well. Sony Xperia Z2 is much better in both of them. Video recording capabilities is pretty much the same, oh wait Sony Xperia Z2 can shoot 4K video. Camera: Sony Xperia Z2.
Even the Sony Xperia Z2 is not stock Android but it operates over a UI which does not offer you any different features than the feature API palette of Android v4.4.2, the one they operate it over. Both the phones run on the v4.4.2 Android KitKat. Nexus 5 is stock Android and is less cluttered than the Sony UI. You will any day choose than instead of the Sony cluttered UI, would have played out different if it has something more to offer like the TouchWiz has. Software: Nexus 5.
The Nexus 5 is an older phone and runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor whereas the Sony Xperia Z2 runs the 801 Snapdragon which is a tad faster than Nexus 5 on paper. Both the phones are equally fast, just not on paper. They are smooth over every app and you don’t really realize that difference when you use them. Nexus 5 offers fixed memory whereas the Sony Xperia Z2 allows you to expand it till a whooping 128GB! And it gives you an extra GB of RAM over 2GB RAM of Nexus 5. The battery performance is much better and so is the speakers. Performance: Sony Xperia Z2.
