Sony Xperia U Review

Changing the present and future of Sony Xperia phones was a series of them that changed the way people thought about Sony’s mobiles and totally defined their status. One of these phones is the Sony Xperia U, highly appreciated, big on performance, amazing display, great camera and everything in between. It was one of the best sellers in the 10,000INR-15,000INR category. The sound, the feel, the touch, everything on the Xperia U is just fascinating. Lets know more about this wonderful piece.

Not thinking out of the box or try something new, they Sony Xperia U has a very tough square like design but the brilliance comes with the highly accurate curve at the back engineered to feel amazing when you hold the phone in your hands. The quality on this phone is just incredible. Even Galaxy Grand by Samsung feels cheap when you hold the lower priced Xperia U. It has got the volume rockers, dedicated camera button, and great quality speakers. HTC and Sony spend their time making the built as well as sound quality up to the best level they can. The different colour bands coming from the phone around the bottom bar to alert you look very beautiful. Amazing colours.

You all might have expected a 4.0 inch display but it rather has a “stunningly beautiful” 3.5 inch screen. With resolution of 480x854pixels and 280ppi pixel density this phone just screams quality rich display. You can see the app icons, very sharp and accurate. The colours really shine out with great detail on this amazing display. HD content looks beautiful on this bad boy. Surfing and gaming feel pretty good too (visually). Sony has really done a lot of good here than “anything” bad.

We were really disappointed with a lot of camera on the Xperia phones but the 5MP primary camera on this phone is a keeper. Captures good colours. Has got great shutter speeds, good detailing. It also has those face detection and smile detection features you would want. The images are taken in 2592x1944pixels of resolution. Really, the images blow you away. This is one you can carry instead of your point and shoot on a holiday. The video is captured in 720p quality by the primary camera. The front facing camera is a VGA. Very normal.

Out of the box, the Sony Xperia U comes with Android v2.3 Gingerbread but save the disappointment. As of today, you have a v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update available for this keeper of a phone. Android v4.0 is just incredible. Great features and a brilliant performance. You get to customize the phone with a lot of widgets and also the basic look that feels nice for you. Android has been a really good OS not for users but for developers with its open source and Google’s generous provision for the APIs. Google really is shaping the world in every way they possible could. 4.0 does not have that deep a social integration if you live your life on Facebook/Twitter or just on any social site.

Sony Xperia U comes with a Dual Core 1GHz NOVATHOR processor which is really very powerful. It gives your device enough of fuel to multitask and run apps without any problem. Xperia U has a 512MB of main memory/RAM. It gives great support and backup to manage your tasks on the smartphone. This phone does go down in quality of performance over a period of time but manage the memory well and you should not have any such problem. But that is kind of the case with almost all those phones on Android.

Memory and Data

The phone comes with an internal memory of 8GB so you won’t exactly feel the need to buy yourself a new microSD card right away. 8Gigs is quite a lot buds. But you cant really expand it even if you wanted to because, well- there is no card slot. It supports 2G and 3G wave bands and you can also connect to the internet via the Wi-Fi. MicroUSB port and bluetooh helps to throw your files around to people who want to share something with you. There is no NFC in there.

Final Thoughts

Great quality, high on specs and lives up to it in performing. Buy this one, you won’t be disappointed. There are a lot of options in the mid-range phones to choose from, more than there is in the low end or the higher priced phones. If you want a 4inch+ screen this aint your place to be. If you are a sucker for quality and performance, go for it. It is for those who like to take causal photos from their phones, live music in their phones and watch a lot of “stuff” on the go.

Sony Xperia U costs Rs.12890

Passion and Inspiration drives my life and I get them both from technology. Getting to write about it is an absolute bliss. The bliss comes from people reading what you want to convey. There is nothing better for a person than his views to be heard. I am a music, tv shows, movies and technological enthusiast.
