Samsung: Year In Review 2013

Samsung opened up pretty strong but along the way they were not able to carry the momentum till the end. They saw some major products coming out this year. Some were really impressive and others were just fine. We would not take the TVs into consideration, just the phones, tablets and laptops.

Samsung Galaxy S4

It all kicked off with their most awaited phone of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S4. The way the Galaxy SIII fared in markets made people really excited for the GS4. It surfaced a super-fast Octa Core processor, but only 4 cores worked at a time. It had a stunning 13MP shooter and certain smart features you might want to use time to time. Samsung Galaxy S4 was one of their most successful products of 2013.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.0

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.0
There is one place where Samsung is still no match for Apple- tablets. With the new Tab 3, both with the 8 inch model and 10 inch model they hoped to sell units to match Apple but that did not happen. Taken the product into consideration, they certainly had better quality than the previous tablets and surfaced a much better experience than the last. The built really impressed and Tab 3 10.0 was the winner for the consumers. The reduced bezels and sleek design made it really appealing.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

Samsung released this phone with the tag S4 even when it was nothing like the Galaxy S4. But, it was meant for the camera. The pictures it took were really good but they did not stand out in any way against the general smartphones and then came the power of Nokia Lumia 1020 and S4 Zoom was history already. S4 Zoom is based on an older Snapdragon processor and only borrows 2 features from the Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini

As the name suggests, it is a downgraded version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini did not send shockwaves down the consumer electronics world. It came, sold a few pieces and that’s all. It has an 8MP camera, v4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Snapdragon 400 processor.

Samsung Galaxy Mega Series

So there were two phones that came with the Mega tag. And Samsung was being literal there. The phones are pretty gigantic. There were two display sizes, the 6.3 inches and 5.8 inches, both of which are pretty huge. Software wise, this phone did not have anything to offer. Samsung’s only purpose here was to provide customers with a large display phone. 5.8 inches has a pathetic display, do not even bother. The 6.3 inch model has a decent 720p HD display.

This is one of the other things world was waiting for, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.0. Leaks had already revealed what to expect from this phone. The Note 3.0 came with a powerful Snapdragon 800 processor along with 3GB of RAM. The 13MP camera on board was able to capture videos in 4K! Yes you heard it right! The battery life was amazing. Samsung Galaxy Note 3.0 really impressed with it’s software features all of which are really handy and it also had everything GS4 had to offer to us. One of the most beautiful parts about this phone was the 5.7 inch full HD Display.

Samsung Galaxy Gear

Samsung Galaxy Gear, also known as the biggest failure of 2013 is not cool. Pebble Smartwatch is way better and that is all I would say. Galaxy Gear is still BETA I would say and is priced a little too aggressively. Apple was right to not unveil their watch this year.
