Samsung Galaxy S Duos

Samsung stepped a notch to provide you with something special for a good price with the Samsung Galaxy S Duos. It is a dual sim phone with 4inch display size. It is a very good performer at a very decent price. It has less of amazing features but has all the basic features, as in- it doesn’t stand out in any area, but it has those areas, this phone has nothing missing. They have learnt from their previously released phones and created such a better model to lead the budget phone category, lets talk more about it.

This phone has the same design like that on Galaxy Grand. But, somehow the built quality seems better than the other mid ranged Samsung phones we have used. It has an incredibly smooth plastic back, it feels really amazing. For a fact we even think the built quality is better than Galaxy Grand hands down. The phone weighs about 120g; it is neither light nor heavy. It has an average thickness, not too thick. The dimensions of this phone are- 121.5 x 63.1 x 10.5 mm (4.78 x 2.48 x 0.41 in). The usual volume rockers are there on the left edge of the phone, microUSB port at the bottom, the 3.5mm headphone jack and a dedicated camera button. It comes in 2 colours: Black and White. It is beautifully but delicately curved on the corners like every other Samsung phone and also at the edges at the back.

Samsung has a put up a beautiful TFT Capacitive 4.0 inch display on this phone. The viewing angles are good. It supports multitouch too. The colours on this display are excellent. It looks much better than the 5.0 inch display on the Samsung Galaxy Grand. It has a resolution of 480×800 pixels and 233ppi pixel density. HD content looks very beautiful on this phone, its quiet bright and well detailed. The browsing experience is nice, so is the gaming experience. It’s a really accurate display. We are stunned.

Galaxy S Duos runs on the Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon 1 GHz Cortex-A5 processor. It uses an Adreno 200 GPU chipset. It runs really smooth. It is not as responsive as the high end phones but really very nice. It is faster than Samsung Galaxy Nexus and almost as fast as LG Optimus 2X. It has a 768MB of RAM. It is very useful for multitasking and running apps that need a lot of your main memory. The heart of the phone is run by the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There is no update yet, but it should. With such a processor, RAM and basic hardware, it should be able to do just fine in the Android v4.1 Jelly Bean world. The dual sim does squeeze out more power than it has to. The call quality is amazing. It has noise cancelation as well. Samsung Galaxy S Duos can hold up to 425 hours of standby time on 2G and 330h of standby time on 3G. The talk time on 2G is about 13h and 7h 30m on the 3G network. This is quiet decent and made possible by the 1500mAh battery.

This smartphone comes with a 5MP primary camera sensor, very good to capture photos. It is not good to be your primary camera in real life. If you are going on a holiday and want to choose not to take your point and shoot because you think this camera would stand out, you are obviously wrong. This camera is really nice; it takes good photos in good conditions. The night or low light photos are really noisy. It can do everything a 5MP camera should. It records video in VGA quality. The front facing camera is also of VGA quality. It comes with LED flash and touch to focus.

As we earlier mentioned, this phone comes with Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It gives you many apps out of the box, Google’s own, the best. The Play Store- the app store for Android by Google has tons of applications. Go out and explore, there is an app for almost anything and everything. It is also amazing as a platform to develop applications too. One of the best, most interactive Software Development Kit comes from Google’s own. Buying out Android was their best decision ever. This mobile OS, the ice cream sandwich Android v4.0 is one of the world’s most popular operating systems. Big on customization and if you are a geek, you know exactly to do.

Memory and Data

The phone comes with 4GB on internal memory and 768MB of RAM or main memory. You can expand your storage by using microSD cards. You can go as far as 32GB. You can use the Bluetooth to go around with other devices, other phones, speakers etc. There is no NFC. You can use WLAN to connect to Wi-Fi. It supports both 2G and 3G.

Final Thoughts

This is one of our favourite Samsung Galaxy phones. The Galaxy S Duos is a total winner. Good quality and great performance. Though the spec sheet might look “not so good” but for the price it is on right now, brilliant. It has one of the best finishes on a Samsung Phone. We really love the display. Galaxy S Duos has 4 inch display which is beautiful a very decent cost along with Android 4.0 ICS. Go ahead and buy it.
