Just when you thought that Samsung could not get over their oversized phones they just happened to release a phone which is as big as well, 6.3 inches! The design seems to be same as that on the Galaxy Grand or SIII or SIV or Galaxy S Duos or……you know what I mean. Only time will tell when this comes to a saturation. Add 0.7 inches and you get a tablet! thats how big this phone is (phablet actually). Samsung has done some work in adding some power to this phone in terms of processing speed when you compare it to the Galaxy Grand but nothing big on software that SIII could not do.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is no exception when it comes to the built quality of the phone, the same as holding a Galaxy SIV. In a certain way it might feel better than holding an SIII or Galaxy Grand. The phone is quite heavy weighing roughly 200 grams! You might just feel like carrying heavy stones in your pocket. Its just not that comfortable! Its dimensions are 167.6 x 88 x 8 mm (6.60 x 3.46 x 0.31 in) see how big that is? Its not even thin for that matter of fact. Lets see how it holds up. The phone is slightly curved on the corners with rather flat back. It feels good in your hands but no way you can operate it with on hand throughout the screen.
The Mega 6.3 has a 6.3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display. We would have expected a OLED display for such cost. The screen resolution is 1280×720 pixels with 237 ppi pixel density not making a full HD display. For a cost of around $750 we do expect a better, richer screen. It is quite good but just for the cost which is tending to the high end phones, not good enough. One would thoroughly enjoy watching movies on this phone no doubt. You would love the gaming experience on this phone too- perks of having a big display, Samsung display. The colours on the screen are accurate but not real. It does looks soothing to the eye though but as we said, they should have done more.
They come with Android Jelly Bean v4.2.2 out of the box and with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI. Samsung has worked its way into the software and carrying the new innovations down into the Galaxy Mega 6.3 from SIV. They have introduced the same Air View feature in the Mega 6.3 like in the Samsung Galaxy SIV. You also get Smart Stay, multi window and screen mirroring. With Screen Mirroring with which you can enjoy your games, videos and everything on the tv through the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Wicked!
It is the best of Note 2 and SIII combined with a lot of power thats all we can say. Android is one of the best platform for mobile developers. For general users it is really friendly and offers deep customization. You get all the applications there is out there in the market as they initially release on Android and iOS.
Carrying a 8MP camera, the Mega 6.3 does a good job capturing images. The images are captured in max resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. Support of led flash, geo tagging, face detection and smile detection is also there. Great addition to this camera is the HDR mode which lets you capture stunning images with great detail and enhanced colors. It also has a 1.9 MP front camera for video calls and chatting over the internet. The video capture on the primary camera is of full HD quality i.e 1080p making your videos sharp and look smoothly beautiful
Powered by a 1.7Ghz dual core Snapdragon 400 processor along with 1.5 GB RAM this phone gives you great speed managing apps and powering the task you are performing. Multitasking is fast but it might lag opening bulky apps or camera. Games such as Asphalt 5 and Modern Combat runs amazingly smooth putting up to you for great experience.
Memory and Data
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 comes with 8/16GB internal storage which is expandable to up to 64GB. The main memory is of 1.5GB which gives you the fuel to multitask and manage going into bulky apps. You get the bluetooth v4.0 support to share files on the go. NFC is also supported by the device. The phone supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks. You can also connect on to the internet via wireless local area networks and create hotspots. We also get the infrared sensors to use the device as a remote.
No doubt this phone is high on power and features that have come down to this phone from the SIV’s tweaked UI and Software. But its just too big to own. 6.3 inches literally speaks volumes. Ladies might still be able to carry this in their fancy handbags but no way that is going to feel good in your pocket. There are better displays, I am talking 10x better displays in 5-inch line for the same price tag or even less actually. Take the Nexus 4, it is way better from every dimension and gives you best of the best. If you really don’t mind the bulkiness and the size being more than many people’s palm, go ahead. But we do not recommend you to buy this phone for lots of reasons. Better wait for Note III mate.
