Nokia Lumia 710 Review

When Nokia’s revenue and market share was going down, Nokia came up with the Lumia series of phones that did not let the Finnish phone giants go down. The first series of Lumia devices were powered by Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. One of these great Lumia phones is the Nokia Lumia 710. The phone looks really stunning and has got a real great finish on its body though it is plastic it still reflects quality. The phone has a pretty decent 5MP camera as well. WP’s flat design and UI makes not just this phone but the whole Nokia Lumia series pretty unique.

Nokia Lumia 710 looks quite different, the edges on the top and bottom trace the surface for a longer length than usual and then curve out to the side edges. The built is solid and the plastic is of real class quality. Nokia Lumia 710 is crafted really accurately. It has a nice flat back with the camera and the led flash for night shots. There is a volume rocker, dedicated camera button, 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB slot on the phone. Nokia Lumia 710 is a mid-range phone with just the perfect built and size. It does not weigh much, just about 125g and scales around 119 x 62.4 x 12.5 mm. The phone comes in those creative fun colours which is trademark Nokia Lumia- this device is available in Black, White (front)/ black, white, cyan, fuchsia, yellow (back). The speakers on the phone are really loud and they just blast throughout and give clear and pure quality sound.

Nokia Lumia 710 has a rather small 3.7 inch display with a resolution of 480×800 pixels making it a 480p non HD screen. I said small because the normal size of screen that has become conventional these days is 4-inch but there are models even by budget phone makers that comes with 4.3 or even 5-inch so 3.7inches aint really doing that big now, its small. The pixel density on this screen is about 255ppi which along with WP’s flat design looks even better, the live tiles or images or videos and everything else just looks picture perfect on the Nokia Lumia 710. The colours are very accurate and almost perfect with good balance of contrast in the colours. The finishing of the screen is great leaving you with a possible option of not taking a screen guard for scratch resistance or dust etc.

Nokia always has been providing great camera sensors on the Lumia devices. Nokia Lumia 710 has a 5MP sensor that takes photographs in max resolution of 2592x1944pixels. The colours on the images look really nice and the detailing is pretty sharp. The contrast seems to be great too but the camera does not perform well in the low light conditions and shows pretty noisy photographs. The video can be taken in HD quality i.e in 720p, no not in full HD and there is no front facing or secondary camera on the phone. With WP 7.5 you do get a lot to edit in the photographs. The video could have been a lot stable but there is no actual video stabilization tweaks for the sensor I suppose. The LED flash allows you to capture shots in the night as well. There is no touch to focus but the sensor auto focuses on subjects. All in all a camera brilliant for awesome light conditions and uploading images on the social networks.

The whole series in the first wave of Lumia phones run on the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango mobile operating software. This is the perfect getaway if you are tired of using the goodness of Android and iOS. Instead of the series of icons of apps this has a homepage with live updates of the apps you have and you have to be connected to the internet for it to update. Not every app is shown here but and not every app can have a live tile but for the general apps it is pretty handy. The deep social integration is a good touch to the phone. Photos can be shared from anywhere instantly, the camera can be pulled off from anywhere thanks to the dedicated camera button on the Nokia Lumia 710. With WP 7.5 you also get the best ok Nokia’s own apps the Nokia Music, Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps. They are really handy. Windows Phone 7.5 is a very light OS and does not eat as much RAM as Android does with basic functionality.

Performance and Memory

Nokia Lumia 710 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor which is clocked at 1.4GHz and 512MB of RAM. The GPU is the Adreno 205 chip. The processor is fast enough to fuel apps on the Windows Phone 7.5 because all the applications are quiet light both in terms of processing and stress on the RAM. Windows Phone 7.5 was design to theoretically get rid of lag, if you are stuck on an app that is not loading that is probably the developers fault. Nokia Lumia 710 has an internal memory of 8GB and there is no expandable memory. Not having an option of expandable memory is pretty annoying for some people but the larger the internal memory the better because the more the external memory the more the processor starves. It does have Bluetooth to pair with different hardware but not with non-Lumia phones.

Final Thoughts

Nokia Lumia 710 is a pretty decent phone. The only reasons not to buy this phone are if you would like to have a larger screen, option of expandable storage and Bluetooth. The display though small is pretty awesome, the camera could have been much better. Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is a huge reason to why you should by this phone and the good clocked processor.
