Apart from the usual series of Nokia Lumia smartphones, the phone has spent time and money in investing for the smaller range smartphones. The Asha series 3, was just made for that. The 311 is the bid daddy in the smaller range of Nokia smartphones. No, it is not powered by the Windows Phone 8 or 7.8 for that fact but by Symbian. The Nokia Asha 311 runs on the Symbian Series 40 OS. The Asha series is only for those who cannot really afford phones over Rs.10000 or $200 for that fact. If you are really into smartphones then this phone is not meant for you to be experienced, it is more for the “don’t care which phone I have” kind of people, but now a days even they buy the best of the best.
Design and Display
Nokia Asha 311 is quiet decent in terms of design. It’s a little thick for a phone that small but for Rs.6000, the company won’t invest much in the design. Actually, it wont be investing much in anything specific at all. The phone is slightly curved around the edges and is made out of plastic. It gives you the feel of the plastic on that of the Samsung Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Y range of phones. The display is quiet small measuring just 3.0 inches. If you are into mobile gaming, or interactive web browsing , this is not the phone for you. The 3 inch sweet little display has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels at close to 155 ppi pixel density. Might sound too less, the ppi but very well compensated by the OS and interface. The display actually looks quiet rich and vibrant to see.
Performance and Memory
Powered by a 1Ghz SINGLE core processor back by 128MB RAM which is not even close to being promising for a decent smartphone. Android phones by Micromax and Huawei offer more capable phones in terms of performance and they offer ANDRIOD!TheSymbian Series 40 is something which should be thinking of retirement now. It’s not a phone worth having on the market competing. It has a internal memory of just 140MB, yes you heard it right but it also has the option of adding a microSD card making it expandable upto 32GB which I do not think the phone will be able to handle. It is 3G capable providing you options of HSDPA 14.4Mbps and HSUPA of 5.7Mbps.
Nokia Asha 311 has a 3.1 MP primary camera which captures images of resolution 2048×1536 pixels. The video capturing is only of VGA quality! Any guesses for the secondary camera? It actually does not have one. If you are the
Symbian and the Apps
Symbian Series 40 is not a competition to the major OSes such as Windows Phone 8, Andriod or the iOS. You cant even compare. It will provide you with the usual apps such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, Angry Birds etc but their market is not even close to being as dense as Windows Phone 8 let alone be that of Andriod or iOS.
This phone is strictly for the ones who do not care about what they have. For the ones who DO NOT want power in their hands, power of fast mobile computing, power of having loads of applications to use in their day to day lives. If you have a tight budget we are taking Rs.6000 tight, then TOO opt for a Mircomax or Huawei of about the same cost or save and get Nokia Lumia 520, or a Xperia U for about Rs.10000.
