Moto X 2014 vs Moto G 2014

This article is basically to inform you as to why you are paying the extra bit on the Moto X 2014 and why not sticking to the Moto G 2014. That is, given you have the money in the bag to pull Moto X 2014 from the store.

Both the phones are Motorola built, obviously. And they are from the same generation so the design philosophy is the same. The thin edges and curved backs but quality varies. Motorola Moto X 2014 obviously has the higher quality built. The wooden cases and other shells for the Moto X 2014 are incredible. They are lighter and have a higher premium quality than last year around. Moto G 2014 has a moderate quality back panel of both matte and plastic built. The speakers are incredibly loud and clear on both the smartphones.

There is a very clear and distinct difference between both the displays. Moto X 2014 has a 5.2 inch 1080p full HD display whereas the Moto G 2014 comes with a 5 inch 720p HD display. Moto X obviously has the denser display here but the colour presentation and warmth are more or less the same across both the devices. The clarity is a bit better on the Moto X 2014 but Moto G 2014 is not so far behind as well. Moto G 2014’s display is quiet cool as well.

Motorola Moto X 2014 has a 13MP camera and the Moto G 2014 has an 8MP camera. Moto G 2014’s camera takes photo with poor contrast levels compared to the Moto X 2014 and it is clearly visible. The colour balance is also much better on the Moto X 2014 and so is the detailing. Moto G 2014 does a fair job for its price but Moto X 2014 has a far superior UI for the camera and a better lens as well.

They run on the same OS, the v4.4.4 KitKat Android OS and are both vanilla Android. Vanilla Android is basically pure Android without a layer of code over it apart from basic visual stimuli. No difference here whatsoever. Both will get the Android L update when it is available.

Moto G 2014 has the Snapdragon 400 processor and the Moto X 2014 has the Snapdragon 801 processor. So yeah, there is a bit of a generation gap between both the processors and the 400 is no match for the 801. Moto G 2014 has expandable storage over 8GB and 16GB models and Moto X 2014 is stuck to a 16GB or 32GB model. Moto G 2014 has a 2070 mAh battery and the X comes with a 2300 mAh battery.
