Huawei Ascend Mate Review

Huawei is another smart phone company which is considered as underdogs but having said this, after talking about this phone all of this might changed. They started out by making pretty basic smartphone models then slowly amped their moves. They also made a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Now, they have come out with a phone which is absolutely stunning and we think it is going to change a lot as to how people perceive their company- this smartphone is the Huawei Ascend Mate. It looks brilliant, the display is amazing and it has a really great GPU and processor. You might be surprised with this coming from Huawei, but it has and it’s amazing. Xolo, Micromax, Karbon and all these other companies have been trying to push the envelope and the people that benefit here are- us the users.

Huawei Ascend Mate is quiet large, no doubt about it. Its dimensions are: 163.5 x 85.7 x 9.9 mm (6.44 x 3.37 x 0.39 in) and also is quiet heavy weighing around 196grams. The size and weight does not make it ideal for your pockets. But, showing off an amazing phablet is what people are good at. The phone has a great built with its polycarbonate material. The finish is naturally smooth and feels much better than Samsung products. The back of the phone is delicately curved to fit your hands well, but even the largest of hands are going to have a hard time getting around a 163.5mm long phone. But the built, feel and the look of the phone is quiet incredible. It really depends from person to person as to how they feel about the size, otherwise a beautiful piece.

Camera in a smart phone is a very crucial addition. People might differ from one phone to another just because they thought the camera was not worth it. The primary camera on the Huawei Ascent Mate is an 8MP camera which can focus on subjects automatically or the software can use touch to focus to make the lens focus elsewhere. It also has smart detections for smiles and faces. The images are sharp and are not over saturated. The balance of the colors is rather great. The UI of the camera is quiet interactive as well. The primary camera can capture full HD videos i.e. in 1080p @30fps. The front facing camera is 2.1MP and cannot record full HD content, rather sums up to capture 720p video.

Huawei has given this phone an incredible 720p display. It stands 6.1 inches tall making it the second largest phone available in the market, the largest being Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. The 6.1 inch display is an IPS+LCD display- the IPS gives it good viewing angles and LCD is well, the LCD display. Huawei Ascend Mate’s display has a resolution of 720x1280pixels with 241ppi pixel density make it look very sharp. If you are looking for certain pixels, look closely because you will find them but the large display size pushes you even further and the screen would look as beautiful as it sounds on paper. Thanks to the UI by Huawei the display looks even better and almost looks as if the images are floating in the air but that is a perk of having a 3D theme.

Huawei has its own UI- the Emotion User Interface. It gives you great power in your hands to make the phone look like how you would want to. The animations switching from app to app look quite nice. Certain feeds have this incredible look to it thanks to the UI and they elegantly dissolve into the background. You get to customize your lock screen like never before and the 3D themes just change the way you will look to this smartphone. The operating system on this phone is the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Android gives you an ocean of applications from which you can explore, get apps that you are aware of already. Android provides most of the applications for free which are not free of charge on iOS or Windows Phone 8. Android is very user friendly and along with the Huawei Emotion UI v1.5 it is one of the best experiences you will get.

The latest smartphone from Huawei comes with a powerful 1.5GHz Quad Core Huawei K3V2 processor. Yes, this phone hosts their home made processor. It is always easier to get a processor tailor made for your phone from your own company. The 1.5GHz Quad Core gigantic processor paired with the 2GB RAM makes sure you get full benefits of the large screen with the gaming, reading and watching or anything more that you would like to do. The abilities of this phone would want to choose this instead of a 7inch tablet from any other company. At least we would happily transit from any 7inch tablet to this phone if we wanted to.

Data and Memory

Huawei Ascend Mate has an internal memory of 8 GB which is expandable to upto 32GB using microSD cards. The main memory/RAM is 2GB. There is no NFC- we think that is kind of a setback for medium range phone that we would like to use. You get benefits of Bluetooth v4.0 and microUSB cables. You only get 2G and 3G wave bands on the network and no 4G.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a tablet with immense power and a great display you should rather buy this phone. It has a vibrant display and an amazing UI by the company. The camera takes crisp shots and the phone is quiet powerful with its massive 1.5Ghz Quad Core processor also by the same company Huawei. They are doing some incredible things here and we cannot wait to see what do they come up with next.

There is nothing better for a person than his views to be heard. I am a music, tv shows, movies and technological enthusiast.
