Huawei has been developing good phones lately in every section of the market, be it the lower end budget phone or the mid range and now the higher end phones too. Huawei Ascend G510 is a budget friendly lower end smart phone. In recent times when we say lower end we would mean a decent display, at least Dual Core processor and a 512 MB RAM. This is what most of the phones have these days. Huawei has also come a long way in hardware production as well as the UI that they have made which has improved immensely over the time.
First impressions of the phone till you don’t hold is quiet so-so. But when you pick it up the nice and smooth matte finish makes you like the phone. The front built seems to be of a real low quality glass. Huawei Ascend G510 has that amazing rubbery matte finish to the back, it feels nice in your hands and gives you a good grip. The phone’s weight is quiet decent- about 150 grams. The body is pretty solid and really minutely curved on the corners. The back is slightly curved from edge to edge. The lock button and the volume rockers are on the left side of the phone towards the top while the microUSB slot it at the same side at the bottom. The overall finish is really nice but the material up front should have been better. You can buy this in black colour or the white.
Huawei Ascend G510 has a 4.5 inch display. It is a 480p display with a resolution of 480×854 pixels with a pixel density of 218 ppi which is quiet low for a display this big. You can see little pixilation on the icons and the background does not really merge well with the colours on the icons. It needs more sharpness and well detailing. Black level density is really low but a bit better than the same priced Lumia models by Nokia. The IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display technology gives you better viewing angles on your phone. Colours are quiet average, the tone is not in its true form. Full HD content playback is a disappointment on the 4.5 inch display. Huawei Ascend G510’s best thing about the display is probably just the size. Entertainment is quiet a good experience because of the nice size of the display. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass but we advice you buy a scratch guard because it is not all that great.
Smart phone cameras are one of the most rending and innovating fronts for a smart phone in recent time. If you can have a great sensor on your camera then you won’t need an expensive digital camera for taking causal shots. Huawei Ascend G510 has a 5MP primary camera which takes shots in max resolution of 2592x1940pixels. The contrast is nice so are the colours. You cannot really manipulate the exposure to get difference in the shots that you desire. You cannot even change the ISO settings which is a drawback. Primary 5MP camera is capable of capturing HD video in 720p quality. The front VGA camera is not at all good, it produces noisy shots and is not that helpful or desirable in video chats. No dedicated night mode resulting in noisy low light or night shots. LED Flash allows you to take photos in the night though. There is no touch to focus but the lens can focus automatically on subjects though we would have loved touch to focus.
The user interface on the Huawei Ascend G510 is the basically the same like most Android phones. But there is a redefined customization that you can do on basic home pages of the phone that is much different than seen on older HTC Sense UI or Samsung’s TouchWiz. The operating system on board is the v4.1 Android Jelly Bean. Play Store is the best place online to get the apps for Android. With time the quality of Apps on Android is becoming better and better. The openness has given rich diversity to Android apps thanks to large number of different APIs available across platform.
Performance and Memory
Huawei Ascend G510 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual Core 1.2 GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. This is what in today’s time is classified into lower end smart phones. It works really well though you can make out that a 1GB RAM would have made the user’s life much better than on 512MB RAM. But that can be said for anything then. Huawei Ascend G510 comes with 4GB of internal memory which can be expandable to upto 32GB via microSD cards. You have support for EDGE, GPRS and 3G wavebands. Wi-Fi is enabled and phone can also be turned into a hot-spot. NFC is market dependent but you have Bluetooth and microUSB slots for pairing and sharing.
Huawei Ascend G510 is a pretty decent phones. If you are considering it then -like it for its UI, the feel of the body, the camera and the performance. If you want a real good display then this is not the smart phone you are looking for. For everything else, this device is pretty standard.
Huawei Ascend G510 comes for Rs. 10399
